IRB Federalwide Assurance (FWA), Registration, and Compliance

OUHSC IRBs comply with all U.S. regulatory requirements related to the protection of human participants outlined in 45 CFR 46, 21 CFR 50, and 21 CFR 56.  

OUHSC maintains an active Federalwide Assurance (FWA) with the Office for Human Research Protection (OHRP). All IRBs are registered with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).

IRB COMPLIANCE STATEMENT

The IRB Compliance Statement can be used as documentation of institutional compliance standards in place for OUHSC IRBs. 

Scope of Authority

OUHSC IRB is the IRB of record for all OUHSC faculty, staff, residents, fellows, and students who conduct research with human subjects, regardless of the funding source or location of the research. OUHSC serves as the IRB of record for:

  • OUHSC - OKC campus
  • OUHSC - Schusterman Campus, Tulsa
  • OU Health
  • VA Health Care System - OKC
  • VA Health Care System - Eastern Oklahoma (Muskogee)
  • Dean McGee Eye Institute 
  • OU Norman Campus (for biomedical, clinical, and/or FDA-regulated research)

OUHSC IRB has oversight of five convened IRBs, four of which meet monthly on their designated Monday. The schedule is linked below and provides all meeting dates for the year as well as the submission deadline for each meeting.

The IRB Executive Committee meets on the first Monday of each month unless the University is closed due to holidays or weather.
