Privacy Notice for Research and Clinical Trial Participants

This Notice provides general information about your privacy rights under the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and general protections under other privacy laws.

The information in this Notice applies to the University of Oklahoma's use of your personal information. To the extent allowed by applicable laws and/or regulations, we will take all reasonable measures to protect the confidentiality of your personal information and your identity.

If you decide to participate in a research study or clinical trial, you authorize OU to use, keep, and/or share your personal information ("personal data"). OU may collect and store your personal data, such as your name, sex, age, date of birth, Social Security Number, contact information, body weight, height, race, ethnicity, family history, medical records, scans, blood samples, and biopsies. If you provide additional consent, OU may also use your genetic data.

At some point, you may want OU to stop using your data. You can withdraw consent for future collection, use, and/or disclosure of your personal data at any time. If you want to make this request, you need to tell a member of the research staff. If you withdraw your consent, that will not prevent you from receiving medical care at OU's medical clinics.

We may inform your general practitioner about your participation in research studies or clinical trials. OU may share your personal information only in a lawful, fair, and transparent way in relation to you.

In general, OU can use your personal data to carry out academic, medical, and/or translational research in the public interest, which may include but is not limited to sharing your personal information with other entities or individuals, all in compliance with privacy laws. Your personal data will generally be kept no longer than needed for the purpose we collected it for or as required by applicable law. We will protect the integrity of your personal data using appropriate security, technical, and organizational measures.

You have a number of rights related to your personal data collected for research and clinical trials. These rights are:

  1. The right to request your personal information collected to be correct.
  2. The right to withdraw your consent for the use of your personal information at any time.
